I remember playing through the first Mass Effect. Romancing Liara, collecting goodies on barren planets, killing space zombies... Then I started the second game. Everything I worked for literally went up in flames. Waking up confused and unsure of who or what I am anymore. Then Jacob tells me I've been out for two years. I went on to finish the series but the first time I heard that, I had to turn the game off and walk away. I didn't pick it back up for two weeks. Once I did, I romanced Tali, led everyone through their personal missions, and didn't lose anyone on the Suicide Mission. I was a hero again. Then the Reapers invaded. Rinse and repeat; romancing Tali, saving the galaxy, and making the choice. But I tell you, that choice was so much easier to bear than Tali whispering, "I *have* a home... come back to me..." The choice was made. The galaxy was saved, though Joker may never forgive me. The quarians will have a tougher time to rehabilitate themselves to their own planet without the geth. Tali may never forgive me for forcing her to put my name on the wall... But if that last scene is any indication, I'll have my chance to apologize. Farewell and into the inevitable.

In my run, apart from Ash, Thane, Mordin and Legion from the team... Only my own Shepard had to "get back to the grave", since the sacrifice was nessesary to give everybody a chance to survive, and "evolve the morality" after Synthesis.
